PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an evaporative cooling apparatus capable of significantly enhancing the efficiency of evaporative cooling by positively condensing steam evaporated in an evaporative cooling chamber. SOLUTION: A plate-type heat exchanging means 3 is provided on the outer periphery of the jacket part 2 of a reaction vessel 1. The plate-type heat exchanging means 3 is communicated with the jacket part 2 and connected to a cooling fluid supply pipe 5. The lower portion of the plate-type heat exchanging means 3 and the lower portion of the jacket part 2 are connected to an ejector 10. When cooling the reaction vessel 1, a cooling fluid is supplied from the cooling fluid supply pipe 5 into the jacket part 2 and to the plate-type heat exchanging means 3 so as to effect the evaporative cooling of the subject of cooling while allowing the steam evaporated to be cooled and condensed by the plate-type heat exchanging means 3.
