OPTICAL RESIN COMPOSITION AND PROCESS FOR PRODUCING THE SAME

An optical resin composition containing carbonate crystals which have orientational birefringence and are acicular or rod-like and which, when present in a transparent polymer resin, can counterbalance birefringence without reducing the light transmittance of the transparent resin. This optical resin composition is characterized in that the carbonate crystal particles have a specific surface area of at least 4 m<SUP>2</SUP>/g and the carbonate crystals dispersed in the resin have an average dispersed-particle diameter of at most 500 nm.
