PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress great impairment of the converging stability of rotation of an engine accompanying supply of secondary air using a motor-driven air pump. SOLUTION: The duty ratio of the driving signal of the motor-driven air pump is feedback controlled so that pressure in a secondary air supply pipe reaches a target pressure. When the air pump is started, an increase in the duty ratio is restricted to suppress rush current. Further, an idle air quantity and a fuel injection quantity are increasingly corrected according to the duty ratio. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
