PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact damping device for a vehicle door not impairing getting on/off property at a door opening. SOLUTION: An electric slider 7 is mounted to the door opening 21 of the vehicle 1 through a bracket 6. When a vehicle speed becomes a predetermined value or more, an electric motor 71 is rotated to normally rotate a nut member 72, a slide member 73 is projected from a vehicle body 2 to move it to an advancement position and it is engaged with a recessed part 31a of a slide door 3. When a transmission is shifted to a parking range and a parking brake is operated, the nut member 72 is reversely rotated by the electric motor 71, the slide member 73 is moved to a retreating position and engagement with the slide door 3 is released.
