The pump has a housing, and two pairs of gear wheels (16a, 16b, 18a, 18b) or rotors that are arranged in the housing. Pump stages (16, 18) with suction side and pressure side are formed by rotation of the gear wheels or rotors. One of the pump stages (18) has a set piston (26) and a control valve (29) for varying an oil delivery volume to drive the other pump stage (16). The set piston has an arc shaped recess for receiving the gear wheel (18b), and a spring unit is arranged on a front side of the gear wheel (18b).
