A system and a method for calculating a bandwidth in a portable terminal for a streaming service are provided to calculate an exact bandwidth value and request the bandwidth value to a network by using contents information of a multimedia session message included in a response of a server, thereby enabling the network to efficiently assign limited network bandwidth resources to portable terminals. A method for calculating a bandwidth in a portable terminal for a streaming service comprises the following steps of: enabling a portable terminal to request an explanation of contents to a network and receiving a response from the network(S210,S220); requesting a QoS(Quality of Service) value as much as necessary to be provided with the streaming service of the contents from information of the contents included in the response(S230~S250); and receiving bandwidth resources of the network according to the QoS value(S270). |
