A vacuum cleaner of upright type is provided to clean conveniently by tilting a body of the vacuum cleaner downward with little force owing to sharing a part of body weight with a weight compensation unit installed in a connection part of the body and a brush assembly, and to keep weight applied to a handle uniformly regardless of the inclination angle of the body by using a spiral spring. A vacuum cleaner includes a brush assembly(20) having a couple of wheels, a body rotatably connected to the brush assembly, a spiral spring(51) installed in a connection part of the brush assembly, and a spring winding reel(53) mounted in a connection part of the body corresponding to the spiral spring to fasten an end of the spiral spring. The spiral spring is wound on the spring winding reel in tilting the body downward. The spiral spring is mounted in the connection part of the brush assembly, and the spring winding reel is mounted in the connection part of the body corresponding to the spiral spring.
