<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of correctly detecting a charging current flowing through a photoreceptor, thereby appropriately adjusting a charging voltage. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus such as a printer 1 detects an AC charging current Ip while stopping the application of an AC development voltage to the photoreceptor 10 from a developing section 12, the AC charging voltage flowing between the GND of the printer 1 and the photoreceptor 1 uniformly charged by a charging section 11 applying an AC charging voltage in which a DC voltage supplied from a charging control section 20 overlaps an AC voltage. The apparatus performs an AC charging voltage adjustment process in which the AC charging voltage supplied from the charging control section 20 to the charging section 11 is controlled based on the detected AC charging current Ip. Accordingly, without being affected by a floating current Ib flowing through a floating capacity Cb and by an AC developing current Ic flowing due to the AC development voltage, an AC charging current Ia is highly accurately detected based on only the AC charging voltage from the charging control section 20.
