PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress drop in reliability when a valve lift variable mechanism is driven based on displacement in an axial direction of a control shaft. SOLUTION: When a control shaft 16 is displaced to a distal end side, a pressing surface 56 formed on a distal end part of the shaft 16 receives force F from oil existing in the rocker shaft 15. The force F is decomposed into force Fx in an axial line L2 direction of the shaft 16 and force Fy in an axial line L1 direction of a pin 51 by the pressing surface 56 inclined to the axial line L1 of the control shaft 16. The force Fy acts on the control shaft 16 in a projection direction of the pin 51, and acts as force pushing the control shaft 16 in the axial line direction of the pin 51 in the rocker shaft 15. Consequently, vibration of the control shaft 16 in an axial line direction of the pin 51 due to vibration at a time of engine drive is suppressed. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
