PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a valve box which does not have a large protrusion arranged in a main body when on-off valve operation is carried out with a cover body being held opened, and allows the operator to easily carry out the operating work of the on-off valve. SOLUTION: The valve box is formed of the cylindrical cast iron valve box body 1, the cast iron cover body 2 for covering an upper opening 3 of the valve box body 1, and first and second cast iron connectors 9, 13 connecting the valve box body 1 and the cover body 2. The valve box body 1 has a bearing seat 4 formed in an inner surface thereof at a location lower than an upper edge of the opening 3 of the valve box body 1 by a thickness of the cover body 2, for bearing the cover body 2. Then the main body has a notch 5 formed in the bearing seat 4 at a circumferentially suitable location thereof, and a connection base 6 formed on an immediately lower side of the notch 5 so as to slightly protrude inward from an internal surface of the bearing seat 4. Further, the first connector 9 is supported by the connection base 6 in a manner rotatable about a horizontal shaft center thereof, and one end of the second connector 13 is supported by a rear surface of the cover body 2 at a location near the circumferential edge in a manner rotatable about a horizontal shaft center of the second connector 13, whereby the second connector 13 is hooked in a slot 11 formed in the first connector 9.
