An air humidifier has battery layers of hollow fibers through which there is a flow of air (4), and enveloped by a second external flow of air (5). Each layer of hollow fibers is separated from the next layer of hollow fibers by a layer of fleece or open-pored foam. The fleece or foam is a spiral wrapping around successive layers of hollow fibers.
