The method involves providing a deflecting magnet (7) for deflecting of a head of a surgical instrument, and providing an image data set attached to a coordinate system for three-dimensional representation of a part of a vascular system. Another image data set attached to another coordinate system is manufactured for two or three dimensional representation of a position of the head. A data set describing a path is generated, and the magnet is controlled using the data set, such that the head is deflected automatically on the path and pushed forward until to an arrival point.
