A multimedia contents service system using heterogeneous wireless networks and a method thereof are provided to effectively prevent the disconnection of a multimedia contents service by providing multimedia contents to a mobile terminal through the present wireless network by using a contents buffering technique when handoff is progressing between different kinds of wireless networks. A multimedia contents service system using heterogeneous wireless networks comprises a mobile terminal(302), a wireless network group(304), a contents transmission management server(306), a contents service server(308), a multimedia contents DB(310), an encoder(312), and a converter(314). The wireless network group(304) comprises a CDMA wireless network(3041), a WiBro wireless network(3043), a WCDMA wireless network(3045), etc. The contents transmission management server(306) manages the protocols and states of the wireless networks of the wireless network group(304). The contents service server(308) modifies multimedia contents to be provided to mobile terminals according to wireless networks suitably, creates modified multimedia contents, and stores them in the multimedia contents DB(310).
