A method of culturing mammalian cells using a cell culture vessel comprising a support with a surface comprising a polymer of an acid monomer with an attached layer of fibroblast feeder cells and a serum free cell culture medium. Preferably the cultured cells are human and more preferably selected from keratinocytes, fibroblasts, skin stem cells, embryonic stem cells, melanocytes, corneal, intestinal mucosa, urethral, bladder, neuronal glial, hepatocyte stellate or epithethial cells. The polymer may comprise an acrylic acid monomer or an acid copolymer. Vessels for such methods are also claimed. Alternatively claimed are methods of treating a cell culture vessel using an acid monomer and optionally a hydrocarbon in a gas feed, creating a plasma and bringing said plasma into contact with a cell culture vessel to coat the surface of said vessel. |
