A method for improving a key input speed is provided to enable a user to conveniently operate key input in a telematics terminal by making a main thread for processing key input process the key input after checking a flag value for each key input. If the key input is received from a key input module, a key input message is transferred to a keypad module through a main module(S304). The main thread of the keypad module determines whether a scan process for performing a current automat process is advanced or not, and determines whether the input of the next key input message is received or not by checking the flag value(S312). The key input message inputted before the key scan process is completed is ignored and excluded from a processing target(S314). The main thread ignores the message inputted the key scan process is completed by separating a message receiving process and the automat process.
