Class 108(3) A damping device comprises relativelymovable elements having smooth co-. operating faces, one of the elements com-- prising an enclosure, the faces de-limiting the enclosure to provide gaps of between .5, and 3 m.m. the enclosure containing a highviscosity filling under sufficient pressure to cause it to adhere to the faces. In the construction shown in Fig. 5 a rotor 35 carries a drum 39 of. cast light alloy and is mounted. by bronze rings 34, 36 in a steel casing 27.. Bouncing putty in the rotor spindle at 41 is acted on by a plunger 50, the spring loading of which is adjustable at 48. The space 41 is connected by ducts 42 with the peripheral space between the drum 39 and the casing. The damper is filled through a plug 43. In the construction shown in Fig. 7, the rotor 54 is formed with four circumferentially-spaced semi-circular peripheral recesses 61. The latter may, however, be shaped as a half ellipsoid or parallelopiped with rounded angles. The recesses may also be disposed in the wall of the casing, Fig. 3 (not shown). The angle between the tangents to the surface of the recesses and the surface of the rotor and/or casing (at the point at which these surfaces meet) may be other than 90 degrees in order to vary the damping effect. In addition to a shearing of the bouncing putty at the mouth of the recess a rotary movement of the putty may be induced within the recess by suitable choice of the above-mentioned angle. A number of dampers may be adjusted simultaneously by remote control, Fig. 9 (notshown. The putty space of each damper is separated by a floating piston from a hydraulic conduit. Each conduit is connected by a main conduit with a piston .and cylinder device by means of which the pressure in each damper may be varied.. |
