Method for associating information with a mail item

The method involves temporally assigning an electronic memory device (9.4) to a mail item e.g. letter (9), and fetching information with partial information e.g. postage relevant parameter, into the memory device over a wireless connection. The memory device is connected with an outer cover of the mail item. A shipping good is provided within the cover and the memory device is attached to the shipping good. A franking print with authentication information is produced and assigned to the mail item. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a data processing device (2) a system for mailing a mail item, in particular, a letter.
