The belt tensioner (11) has a torsion spring device (14) and a damping device (21) having a housing (12) with longitudinal axis (A). The torsion spring ends are fixed in the housing. A tensioning arm (15) can turn relative to the housing. A tensioning roller (16) turns on the end of the tensioning arm. The damping device has its housing located co-axially round longitudinal axis and with cylindrical friction surface pairs (36, 37).
