A character input method of a mobile terminal is provided to quickly input the same successive characters by allowing them to be repeatedly inputted without having to continuously manipulate buttons by a user. A button including characters is searched and pressed in a character input mode(201,203,205). It is checked whether the button is being pressed by more than a certain time(207). When the button is being pressed by more than the certain time, a character of the corresponding button is repeatedly displayed(209). If the button is not pressed for more than the certain time, the character of the button is solely displayed(211).
