Distance measuring device and method for measuring distances

The device has a transceiver optic (6) to align radiation from a radiation source (4) on an object scene (20). A control unit (12) produces a distance picture from signals of a detector, and the picture has a set of picture units that are assigned to different sections of the scene. A switchable selection unit (8) is provided through which the radiation can be aligned in a switchably changeable sample in the scene. An independent claim is also included for a method of distance measurement.
