An STB for servicing game on demand and an operating method thereof, and an on-demand game service system using the same and a method thereof are provided to support a game service through a digital television by using the STB without using a medium in which a game program is stored, thereby improving the size of a screen, video quality, and sound quality and supporting games of various platforms. An on-demand game service system comprises the followings: an authentication unit(34) which performs user authentication on the basis of user information; at least one game providing unit(35) which provides a game menu and game information according to a request of an STB(Set-Top Box)(33); and the STB(33) which transmits the user information from a user to the authentication unit(34), receives an authentication result from the authentication unit(34), determines whether the user authentication is valid, outputs the game menu to an external output device for a valid user, calls a program for executing a game file, which the user selects, and executes a corresponding game file.
