A lighting apparatus and an LCD are provided to stably obtain the necessary brightness, by supplying the constant electric current, which is set based on the electrical characteristic value obtained by the monitor unit, to the reference element group and light emitting element groups. A lighting apparatus comprises a plurality of light emitting element groups(21,22,23,24). Each light emitting element group includes a plurality of light emitting elements connected to one another in series. A load(26) is connected to one of the light emitting element groups in series. The load forms a reference element group(27) together with the light emitting element group. A driving circuit(30) includes a monitor unit(32) for monitoring an electrical characteristic value of the reference element group. The driving circuit supplies the electric current, which is set based on the electrical characteristic value obtained by the monitor unit, to the reference element group and the other light emitting element groups.
