A method for reducing crosstalk between sensors in an inline Fabry-Perot (FP) sensor array comprising a plurality of fibre Bragg gratings arranged periodically along an optical fibre is disclosed. The sensors are formed between each of the Bragg gratings. A light source provides multiplexed pulses as interrogation pulses for the array and a light detector detects reflected pulses. The detected pulses comprise a composite of reflections from all the Bragg gratings along the fibre. The method processes the detected signals using an inverse scattering algorithm comprising [a] computing an impulse response for the array, [b] determining at least one response phasor for one of the sensors of the array, [c] computing a sensor response for one of the sensors, [d] computing a transfer matrix, [e] determining forward and backward propagating optical fields from the sensor, and [f] repeating steps [b]-[e] for each sensor in the array. One form of inverse scattering algorithm is a layer-peeling algorithm.
