<p>A simple wave powered water pump comprises two vertical cylinders, an inner cylinder 1 fixed to the seabed and provided with an inlet valve 2 in its base, and an outer cylinder 3 of slightly larger diameter and provided with an upper outlet valve 5 and a float 4. The up-and-down motion of the sea causes the outer cylinder 3 to slide up and down the inner cylinder 1 causing water to be sucked in through the inlet valve 2 and pressurised water to be forced out through the outlet valve 5 to drive a turbine. The inlet valve 2 may not be needed in deeper water.</p> |
