A slider for a sliding clasp fastener of the type comprising inter fitting strips 30, 40, Fig. 9 and 11, of resilient material, e.g. rubber, one strip 30 having a longitudinal pocket 35 to receive a headed and rib 45 on the other, comprises inner and outer guide channels respectively arranged to have a clearance fit with the outer surface of the socket and to substantially enclose the rib, the channels converging so as to unite or separate the fastener members when the slider is moved, there also being extensions from one end of the slider beyond the guide channels engaging the outer surfaces of the pocket member and pressing the walls 33 into engagement with the rib 45. In the form of Figs. 2, 9 and 11 the slider is formed from a single piece of metal sheet, the inner guide channel 65 having a gap 53 to pass the tape 41 of the member 40 and being surrounded by the walls of the outer guide channel 55 receiving the pocket member 30. The slider is moved by a pull tag 66 secured to a loop 67. Integral, longitudinally curved extensions 70 are arranged to converge on the sides of the pocket member 30 to press the walls 33 together to engage the other member 40. The provision of the extensions 70 is rendered necessary because of the unusually large clearance provided between the slider and the fastener members to reduce wear. In the form of Figs. 14, 15 the slider is of plastic or die cast metal and as before comprises converging guide channels 85, 95. In this case the integral extensions 99 are at right angles to the line of the fastener members and are provided with rollers 98 adapted to press the walls of the pocket portion together as before. |
