A recording/reproducing apparatus and a method thereof are provided to suggest certain length if recording density gets higher, and to reduce the number of cases of a recording condition by limiting a run-length condition set within the suggested length, thereby making a recording process possible with effective resources. When information is recorded on an information storage medium, certain length which is an integer multiple of unit recording length is suggested, and recording parameters are set by considering cases of a run-length condition set within certain length which comes before and after on the basis of a start point and an end point of a recording signal. The certain length is obtained by relations of wavelength of a laser, laser size determined by NA(Numerical Aperture), and unit length of marks/spaces set within the laser size.
