An LCD is provided to enhance the strength of an array substrate and a counter substrate, thereby improving the resistance against an external force applied to the substrates, by constituting each spacer group of two spacers, which are disposed proximately to each other. A plurality of spacers are disposed between upper and lower substrates. The spacers are divided into a plurality of spacer groups(2), and one unit of each spacer group is defined by spacers(2a,2b) disposed proximally to each other. The spacer groups are disposed with such a density that the low temperature bubbles are not generated. A large deformation of the substrates due to shrinkage is allowed in a region(10) where no spacers exist. A liquid crystal layer is sufficiently shrunk even under a low temperature environment, thereby suppressing the generation of the low temperature bubbles.
