A method for manufacturing an LCD is provided to increase the number of effective photo-reaction groups for performing a photo-reaction with an alignment layer, thereby improving the rate of reaction, by giving a predetermined directivity to the alignment layer and then applying a polarized UV to the alignment layer. A first substrate(100) and a second substrate(200) are prepared. An alignment material(300a,300b) is formed on at least one of the substrates. A main chain of the alignment material is arranged in a predetermined direction during a rubbing process. A UV is applied to the alignment material, of which the main chain is arranged. The first substrate and the second substrate are bound to each other. The rubbing process is performed with a small rubbing strength. |
