A glycoprotein isolated from Ulmus davidiana Nakai, and a hepatoprotective and hypolipidemic pharmaceutical composition containing the same glycoprotein are provided to protect a liver, treat liver diseases, and induce reduction of blood TBARS(thiobarbituric acid-reactive substance) concentration and increase of antioxidant enzyme concentration and blood NO(nitric oxide) concentration. The hepatoprotective and hypolipidemic pharmaceutical composition contains glycoprotein isolated from Ulmus davidiana Nakai, wherein the glycoprotein contains 70-85% of sugars and 15-25% of proteins and has molecular weight of 113-119 kDa; and is prepared by extracting Ulmus davidiana Nakai with ethanol, filtering and concentrating the extract of Ulmus davidiana Nakai, freeze-drying the concentrate, dissolving the freeze-dried Ulmus davidiana Nakai extract in distilled water, precipitating proteins by adding ammonium sulfate into the Ulmus davidiana Nakai solution, dialyzing the protein-precipitated solution, and freeze-drying the dialyzed product. |
