An interface apparatus in an IP network transmission system and a method for controlling the same are provided to reduce the load of processing and to improve the performance of an Ethernet system by filtering inputted/outputted IP packets and abandoning unnecessarily transceived IP packets so that a main processor can process error-free Ethernet data only. An interface apparatus in an IP network system having a transceiver(3) and a MAC device(6) comprises an error processing logic part(4) and a router(8). The error processing logic part(4) compares an Ethernet packet signal, transmitted from the PHY layer device part(2) of the transceiver(3) in an M11 interface method, with a preset interface signal, records whether an error has been generated, and transmits or discards the packet data according to the comparison result. The router(8) has a control module(7). The control module(7) filters Ethernet packets, transmitted from the MAC device(6) in a PL3/PCI interface method, processes necessary packets only, and transmits the MAC or IP address of packet data to the error processing logic part(4).
