PSEUDO NOISE ACQUISITION APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR SYNCHRONIZATION IN A SPREAD SPECTRUM COMMUNICATION SYSTEM

A PN(Pseudo Noise) acquisition device in a spread-spectrum communication system and a method thereof are provided to more improve a detection probability of a correct hypothesis when a search window-based PN acquisition technique is used during synchronization of a receiver, thereby reducing PN acquisition time. Plural accumulators(309,311) output coherent and non-coherent accumulated hypothesis energy values of received signals. An energy detector(321) detects plural time hypotheses among all time hypotheses within a search window, and outputs plural corresponding hypothesis energy values. A threshold value comparator(323) compares the size of the hypothesis energy values with at least one predetermined threshold value, and outputs the compared results. A controller(325) controls accumulating operation of the accumulators(309,311), and decides that PN acquisition is successful if a particular time hypothesis having a hypothesis energy which is more than the threshold value is confirmed among the detected hypothesis energy values.
