Provided is a method for providing a coated product, which imparts cracking resistance to a core material by using a maltitol-containing coating agent in a cost-efficient manner. The method for coating a core material to provide a coated product comprises the steps of: (i) coating the core material with an aqueous solution containing maltitol, and a crystallization inhibitor for inhibiting crystallization of maltitol in an amount of 3-6 wt% based on the total solid content of the maltitol-containing sugar alcohols in the solution; (ii) further coating the core material coated in step (i) with a powdery maltitol composition; and (iii) drying the coated core material.
