A backlight unit for a direct type of LCD is provided to increase the diffusive area of the light applied to a diffusing plate, thereby enhancing the diffusive efficiency of light, by forming semi-circle shaped grooves on a lower surface of the diffusing plate. A reflecting plate(121) is placed on a cover bottom(127). A plurality of fluorescent lamps(123) is parallel with each other above the reflecting plate. A diffusing plate(129) and a plurality of optical sheets(119) are placed above the fluorescent lamps, wherein the diffusing plate has semi-circle shaped grooves on the lower surface thereof. A support main(117) edges the diffusive plate. An LCD panel(113) is placed above the optical sheets. A top cover(111) edges the LCD panel, wherein the top cover is coupled with the support main and the cover bottom. |
