An LCD and a method for driving the same are provided to realize high response speed of liquid crystals regardless of change of temperature, by modulating data according to the sensed temperature of an LCD panel. A backlight(39) applies a light to an LCD panel(40) according to the current applied to a light source. The temperature of the backlight is varied according to the current of the light source. A temperature sensor(43) senses the temperature of the LCD panel. A first data modulator modulates source data through data stretching. A second data modulator modulates the source data according to response characteristic of liquid crystals. A data driver(41) supplies the modulated data to the LCD panel. A tube current controller(33) controls the current of the light source according to the temperature of the LCD panel. |
