The proposed optoelectronic ring shift register contains two light emitters and bit cells. Each bit cell contains three optoelectronic gates, a photothyristor, and a resistor. The anode of the photothyristor is connected to the first terminal of the first gate and the first terminal of the resistor. The second terminal of the resistor is connected to terminal of the power-supply unit. The cathodes of the photothyristors of the odd and the even bit cells are accordingly used as the first and the second timing inputs of the shift register. The optical output of the first light emitter is connected, via the first gate of each bit cell, to the optical output of the photothyristor of the following bit sell. The optical output of the second light emitter is connected, via the second gate of each bit cell, to the optical output of the photothyristor of the preceding bit sell. The optical inputs of the third gate of each bit cell are accordingly connected to the optical outputs of the first and the second light emitters. The optical outputs of the third gate of each bit cell are used as the optical outputs of the register.
