The proposed method for measuring gas flow velocity over the cross-section of a pipeline consists in determining the refraction indices of the laser radiation that acts on the gas in perpendicular to the flow axis at a specified point of the flow and at a point of the undisturbed flow, determining the difference between the said refraction indices, and determining the flow velocity by the difference between the refraction indices.
