An apparatus for the prevention of the introduction of emboli into the bloodstream during and after vascular interventions. The apparatus comprises:
a guide catheter having a lumen;
a tube having an evacuation lumen, a sealing balloon, and an inflation lumen, wherein the tube is configured to move within the lumen of the guide catheter, wherein the sealing balloon is in fluid communication with the inflation lumen, and wherein the evacuation lumen is configured to be placed in fluid communication with a bloodstream; and
an interventional device selected from the group consisting of a stent delivery system and an angioplasty catheter adapted to be disposed within the evacuation lumen.
