The alignment system consists of recesses (2) in the walls of certain pipe sections (1, 9) that engage with matching projections (3) on the walls of interlocking pipe sections (8) so they are fitted together in the correct positions. The recesses and projections can be made either on the pipe sections' inner or outer surfaces.
