A base material for light reflector that has a high light reflectance, thermal stability, resistance to high temperature high humidity and geometrical stability, being thin; and a relevant light reflector. There is provided a base material for light reflector comprising a laminate structure of polymer film (A), inorganic substance layer (B), adhesive layer (C) and base (D), these components arranged in the order of (A)/(B)/(C)/(D), wherein the inorganic substance layer (B) is a layer containing at least a metal, a metal oxide or a mixture thereof. It has been found that this base material for light reflector has strikingly high thermal stability, resistance to high temperature high humidity and geometrical stability as compared with those of the prior art. A light reflector exhibiting high reflectance and excelling in durability can be obtained by superimposing metal layer (E) containing silver or aluminum on the polymer film (A) of the base material for light reflector.
