<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve flexible toughness, heat resistance, adhesion and moisture resistance of an epoxy resin cured product in a technical field where a modified epoxy resin is used, and to provide a curing agent (hydroxy compound) and an epoxy resin that give such a cured product, an epoxy resin composition comprising the same, and a manufacturing method of the curing agent and the epoxy resin. <P>SOLUTION: The epoxy resin composition comprises a hydroxy compound (A) represented by general formula (1) (wherein Ar<SB>1</SB>and Ar<SB>2</SB>are the same or different and are each an optionally substituted aromatic ring; X is an aliphatic hydrocarbon group; and n is an average recurring number and is 0.5-5.0) and an epoxy resin (B).
