METHOD FOR DETERMINING HANDOVER TARGET CELL IN MOBILE COMMUNICATION SYSTEM

A method for determining a target cell for handover in a mobile communication system is provided to improve the handover success rate by determining a target cell for mobile terminal's handover in consideration of the Rx signal level information and Rx quality information of neighbor cells. A mobile terminal calculates each BER(Bit Error Rate) for the BCH(Broadcasting CHannel) carriers of neighbor cells respectively at the 26th idle frame of a multi-frame(201). The mobile terminal calculates the Rx quality weight of each of the neighbor cells using an Rx quality value based on each of the calculated BERs(203). Then, the mobile terminal transmits a periodic measurement report message containing the Rx signal level information and Rx quality weight information of the neighbor cells to the network(205).
