<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stably charge an image carrier in an image forming apparatus with a plurality of charging means for charging the image carrier. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes a photosensitive drum 1; a plurality of charging sleeves 31 and 32 which are applied with biases to charge the photosensitive drum 1; a latent image forming device 2, disposed downstream of the plurality of charging sleeves 31 and 32 with respect to a moving direction of the photosensitive drum 1, for forming a latent image on the photosensitive drum 1 having been charged by the plurality of charging sleeves 31 and 32; and a potential detecting device for detecting a surface potential of the photosensitive drum 1 after passing by the plurality of charging sleeves 31 and 32, wherein charging sleeves 31 and 32 include a charging sleeve 31 and a charging sleeve 32 disposed at a most downstream position with respect to the moving direction, and wherein the image forming apparatus is operable in a control mode in which a bias voltage applied to the first charger is changed with a bias voltage applied to the second charger unchanged. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
