<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pickup for a stringed musical instrument which matches contemporary playing styles without installing a plurality of pickups of different systems. <P>SOLUTION: The pickup 10 for the stringed musical instrument comprises a primary pickup body 11, a magnetic pole piece 15 which produces a magnetic field around strings, a silicone rubber 16 as a buffer member, a super-magnetostrictive element 17 which generates change of the magnetic field corresponding to mechanical vibrations of a primary guitar body, and a coil 18 which transduces the change of the magnetic field due to string vibrations and the mechanical vibrations of the primary guitar body into an electric signal. The mechanical vibrations generated as the primary guitar body is played are physically transmitted to the primary pickup body 11 to eventually apply stress vertically from the primary pickup body 11 to the super-magnetostrictive element 17. The magnetic permeability of the super-magnetostrictive element 17 in the presence of a biased magnetic field varies in proportion to the stress due to the vibrations and then magnetic flux penetrating a loop of a coil 18 varies as a result, so that the coil 18 generates a current. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
