LIGHT MODULATOR ASSEMBLY FOR COLOUR DISPLAY

A light modulator assembly (13, 300) includes first, second, and third light modulators, with first and second dichroic mirrors (305, 310). The first dichroic mirror (305) is located at an optical pupil of said assembly and is configured to split a beam of light (345) into a first component beam (350) and an intermediate beam (375). The first dichroic mirror (305) then transmits the first component beam (350) to the first light modulator (330) and reflects the intermediate beam (375) to the second dichroic mirror (310). The second dichroic mirror (310) is configured to split the intermediate beam (375) into second and third component beams (355, 360) and to direct the second component beam (355) to the second modulator (335) and the third component beam (360) to the third modulator (340). A third dichroic mirror is configured to receive the output of the first, second, and third modulators (330, 335, 340) and to pass the output from the first, second, and third modulators (330, 335, 340) to display optics (16).
