A backlight unit and a fabricating method thereof are provided to form protrusion parts in the shape of waveform of light to scatter light toward a front surface of a projection side, thereby resolving line projection problems caused by high intensity of a light source. A backlight unit includes a light source, and a light diffusion plate mounted on a housing. The light diffusion plate has a diffusion board(410), and a pattern(470) formed on the diffusion board with a section in the shape of waveform for scattering light radiated from the light source. The pattern is formed of high molecular substances by UV curing. The pattern has a plurality of waveform protrusion parts(475) and slit parts. |
