PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an assist device capable of being configured in a lightweight state, and to provide an operation cable unit using it. SOLUTION: This assist device 10 used for a cable 21a, 21b having one end always energized to a return direction by a return spring of an operation object, and the other end pulling-operated against energizing force of the return spring has: a drum 13 locked with end parts of the cable 21a on an operation side and the cable 21b on the operated side, and wound with them around the drum 13; a first gear 14 co-rotating with the drum; a second gear 15 meshing with the first gear; a lever 16 co-rotating with the second gear 15; and a spring 17 stretched between a housing 11 and the tip of the lever. In the assist device 10, an angle made by the lever 16 and the spring 17 is small when an operation stroke is small, and becomes larger as the operation stroke becomes larger.
