PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To propose a new learning method of nonlinear mapping in a computer program for taking a causal correlation present between events as the correlation between the events and learning such nonlinear mapping, and a recording medium. SOLUTION: On assumption that n-pieces of data are obtained with q-pieces of objective variables y illustrated by p-pieces of predictor variables x, the computer program determines, when this group of data is a data group D, a mapping relation F between the predictor variable x and the objective variable y, by approximating as y=ϕi(x) by a plurality of linear functionsϕi. In a main routine, all learning data D in a database of the sample data is read and subroutine PLM-Approx (D) is executed. In a subroutine PLM-Approx (data assembly D), the data group D is linearly approximated by main component regression analysis, and when the data assembly satisfies an approximation termination condition, the approximation is terminated. When the data group D does not satisfy the approximation termination condition, split test subroutine Split-Data (D, D<SB>1</SB>, and D<SB>2</SB>) is performed to the data group D to divide the data group D to D<SB>1</SB>and D<SB>2</SB>.
