PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a fixing member of an image forming apparatus from fusing in a part not in contact with a paper. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus is equipped with a heating roller 52 which touches and heats a fixing belt being a fixing member, a plurality of induction coils 71, 72, 73 to induction-heat the heating roller 52, switches 74, 75, 76 to control the energized state of the induction coils 71, 72, 73, respectively. The apparatus has functions of detecting a length in a width direction of a paper, discriminating a region where the fixing belt is in contact with the paper from a region not in contact with the paper, and controlling the energized state of the respective induction coils 71, 72, 73 in such a manner that the region to be in contact with the paper is heated to a fixing temperature or higher necessary for fixing a toner and the region not to be in contact with the sheet is kept at a temperature lower than the fixing temperature of the toner.
