PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To satisfy magnetic characteristics, film thickness, adhesion, uniformity, smoothness, etc. required for a soft magnetic backing layer of a vertical magnetic recording medium to be a hard disk by forming a soft magnetic plating film by an electroless plating method after applying etching processing to a glass substrate by using an etching solution capable of uniformly applying suitable roughness to the surface of the glass substrate without generating defects. SOLUTION: In a plating method on a glass substrate, etching processing (S2) is applied to the surface of the glass substrate by using an etching solution composed of mixture of at least hydrofluoric acid, fluoride salt, a hydrophilic solvent, and water, and then a soft magnetic plating film is formed by electroless plating (S7), and heating processing (S8) and polishing work (S9) are applied to the soft magnetic plating film.
