A receiver (1) operable to receive OFDM symbols comprises an antenna (2), a receive chain (21) and a power control unit (PCU) (20). The power control unit (20) has a control output connected to control inputs of the components of the receive chain (21) . OFDM symbols incident on the antenna (2) comprise a main signal and a guard signal, where the guard signal is a cyclic extension of the main signal. The control output of the PCU (20) is arranged to be at logic level '1 ' during reception of the main signal and at logic level '0' during reception of the guard signal. Thus the PCU (20) refrains from operating components of the receive chain (21) during reception of the guard signal. This can save power in the receiver (1) . |
